Julu Martínez (Torre del Bierzo, 1996) has a degree in bilingual Audiovisual Communication from UC3M and is a director, screenwriter, and art director. Several of their works have won awards at national and international festivals and screened at institutions such as MACBA (Barcelona), the Joan Miró Foundation (Barcelona), the Valencia Film Archive, and different Spanish universities in Madrid (UCM, UC3M, URJCI).
For several years, they were part of the Sub21 collective at the Contemporary Art Center of the Community of Madrid (CA2M, 2015-2018) and the 2nd Edition of young programmers at the Cineteca de Madrid, Cinezeta (2019). After participating in both laboratories, they premiered MAPA DE LA GEOGRAFÍA EMOCIONAL at FICX and LesGaiCineMad, winning Best Screenplay (Skyline Benidorm Film Festival) and Best Project at the Emergente Forum! (AIC/CAM). In 2021, the U22 festival dedicated a solo retrospective to them at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona. And last year, they also received the Semilleru Kids award at FICX for the best children's project, ¿DÓNDE ESTÁN LOS LADRONES? (Where are the Thieves?), which also participated in the Málaga Talents program under the umbrella of the Málaga Film Festival.
They is currently developing new projects while collaborating with other filmmakers, mainly in art direction and poster design, fostering a deeper connection with different perspectives.
